A London Gin is a type of gin where the botanicals providing the flavours are inserted inside the still so that the distillate extracted is the end product gin. A London Gin cannot have any flavours added outside the Still. Often also referred to as a London Dry gin.
Our Southend Gin is created in this way by using natural botanicals and the purest Essex water.
We love this gin because it represents a deceptive taste profile. We wanted to create an Essex Seaside gin and we sampled a number of people about what tastes they associate with the Essex Seaside. Although technically a London Dry gin the botanicals added disguise the dryness and give the impression of a dry to medium palate.
This gin is designed to remind your senses of the taste of seaside days in the sun. Just a tiny hint of the spice of Essex, ice cream, sherbet and liquorice dip or maybe a hint of sea-shore citrus drinks.
No expense has been spared in its manufacture, such that we are using the second most expensive spice in the world – natural vanilla pods, sourced currently from Papua New Guinea.
Pigs Bay gins are gravity filtered using charcoal and then coconut to give that malt-like smoothness. Essex in a bottle and truly the “Spirit of Essex”.
